What is Abdominal USG?
Abdominal ultrasound (USG) is a safe, painless, and radiation-free imaging test that uses sound waves to create real-time images of internal abdominal organs.
At Curis Life Multispecialty Clinic in Andheri West, our expert radiologists perform abdominal USG scans with precision to support accurate diagnosis and treatment planning.
All abdominal USG scans are done only by prior appointment to ensure patient comfort, privacy, and zero waiting time.
Why is Abdominal USG Done?
Abdominal USG is used to evaluate and monitor the health of organs like the liver, gallbladder, pancreas, kidneys, spleen, and abdominal blood vessels. Doctors may recommend it to:
- Detect stones, cysts, or tumors
- Identify infections or inflammation
- Assess organ enlargement or damage
- Monitor known liver or kidney conditions
- Guide further diagnostic tests or treatments
Instructions to Follow Before an Abdominal USG
To get accurate results from your abdominal ultrasound, please follow these preparation guidelines:
- Fasting: Do not eat or drink anything (except water) for at least 6 hours before the scan. This reduces gas in the abdomen for clearer images.
- Hydration: Drink a few sips of water if needed, but avoid heavy meals or dairy.
- Medication: Continue your regular medicines unless advised otherwise by your doctor.
- Clothing: Wear loose, comfortable clothing for easy access to the scan area.
- Bring previous reports: Carry any prior ultrasound or diagnostic reports for comparison.
These instructions will also be shared with you at the time of booking your appointment.
How the Test is Done
- A water-based gel is applied over your abdomen
- A handheld transducer is moved over the area
- Real-time images of abdominal organs are captured on screen
- The procedure is completely painless and takes 15–30 minutes
