How is the USG Test Performed?

  • A handheld device (transducer) is moved gently over the area.

  • The procedure usually takes 15–30 minutes and is completely painless.

Instructions to Follow Before a USG

  • Fasting: For abdominal scans, do not eat for at least 6 hours before the test.
  • Full bladder: For pelvic or obstetric scans, drink 4–5 glasses of water an hour before and do not urinate until after the scan.
  • Medication: Continue your regular medications unless instructed otherwise.
  • Comfortable clothing: Wear loose-fitting clothes for easy access to the scan area.
  • Bring previous reports if you have any, to help with comparison.
